Alright! I hope life is good. We've had a great summer here.
I've had some great gigs, made a new record, and had
time too to enjoy the sunshine and fertile energy of home.
Plenty of swimming, bike riding, playing with the dog, and
fixing up the house. We're still enjoying the fruits and flowers of the
garden; and the tomatoes just won't quit...
Here's the latest news:
NEW CD IS COMPLETED,
NOW AVAILABLE HERE!
My brand new CD, titled "If I Could
is all recorded and now is off to the
manufacturers. It was recorded within a week in late August
in Iowa City by the very talented Justin
, who I was delighted to work with on my last CD, "Sweet Pea"
We had a blast with Justin. He captured fourteen cuts, and
I'm over the moon with our collective excitement, all laid down live on
This one was an almost all-solo project, recorded on six different
guitars including the incredible barking Flammang
EL acoustic, my Collings, and four different National
Reso-Phonic Guitars, including the 12-string Tricone, two
Baritones and the Radiotone. There is a mystery guest
harmonizing with me on one cut as well.
The album has several original pieces and cuts deep from the blues and
roots treasure trove, with songs heavily influenced by my heroes,
legendary masters Joseph
Spence, Leadbelly, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, John Hurt, Bukka White, Skip
and others. So, lots of singing with loads
of ringing, bending, twanging and sliding strings, and stomping feet.
is now available.
Order it directly from us here from this
website, and you'll also be able to get it from CD Baby, Amazon, some
stores, and at all
of my concerts around the globe. This will be my 11th album, and will
celebrate over 30 years of playing music.
THE WORLD TOUR NEVER ENDS
September takes us to concerts and festivals around the midwest, then
this fall we'll return again to
the United Kingdom
for another giant tour in October and November. We're excited to return
in late November/early December. In January it's off to California
NAMM Show with National and a whirlwind tour starting in San Diego and
working our way up all the way up north to Humboldt County. Then it's
off to Mexico
for most of February and early March. Check out my Tour Dates
page for full details.
"LETTERS TO A YOUNG IOWAN" BOOK
I got a chance to be part of a unique project this summer.
I got to contribute to a book published by Ice Cube Press called "Letters To A
Young Iowan." Editor Zachary
Michael Jack put together this book that includes over a
hundred contributors, including former governor Robert Ray, first lady
Christie Vilsack, wrestling legend Dan Gable, representative Jim Leach
and many others. I was actually quite surprised to be in the company of
so many upstanding citizens. And, unabashedly embracing my roots here
in my home state. I think Iowa is one of those "well-kept
secret" states, and though we go away a lot, it's always a great place
to come back to. It's home, and I love it. My letter was about pursuing
your dreams. Thanks to Zach for having me be a part of this book.
Music from all of my albums is available to purchase for
downloading on all of the major download sites, including ITunes, Napster,
over 40 other companies. Of course, we encourage you to buy
the "old fashioned" way direct from me and Penny right here at
this website, or from CD Baby or
